What is learning theory and behavioral psychology?
Posted on May 27th, 2010 by adminLearning can be under stood as the process that finally delve or conjoins into relative behavioral changes or potential. It more can be understood as much we learn we change the method that we learn around and about our environment. It was for the first time learnt by John B. Watson that the process of learning affects our behavior and thus he formed the school of thought known to be as Behaviorism. The basic concept behind Behaviorism is that only observable behaviors are worthy of research since other abstraction such as a person’s mood or thoughts are too subjective. This belief was dominant in psychological research in the United Stated for around 50 years.
Behavioral Psychology is, primarily study, that how our behavior comes from the stimulus provided in the environment and within ourselves. The behavior study often in minute detail the behaviors that we show up while controlling for as many other variables as possible. After the enriching and great steps it has been understood that what effect does behavior has upon us. This way we can learn about behavior and the effect that they make upon us, how we learn new behaviors and what motivates us to change or remain the same.
Classical Conditioning: Around various learning methodology and patterns the latest one is classical conditioning, which was by circumstance discovered by Ivan Pavlov who was a Russian physiologist who discovered this phenomenon when he was doing research on digestion. The findings of this research supported the idea that there is certain stimulus to human behavior that is not naturally occurring. This states the idea that we develop responses to certain stimuli that is not naturally occurring. In case when we touch a hot stove, our reflex pulls our hand back that is only a survival instinct. But in many cases despite being burned, people pull their hands back even there stove is yet not turned on. Many of our behaviors today are shaped by the pairing of stimuli. Have you ever noticed that certain stimuli, such as the smell of cologne or perfume, a certain song, a specific day of the year and that result into a fairly intense emotion.
Operant Conditioning: This is another type of behavior pattern that is similar to classical conditioning. Here our responses to circumstances presented in the environment are read. It more can be learnt as result of methods presented to us by environment. It can be thought of as learning due to the natural consequences of our actions. As in our daily life we learn a lot from mistakes that we make previous time. So we learn to act differently on the natural consequences of our previous actions. The some holds for positive actions.
